Stewardship at Apostles By-the-Sea
|
WHAT IS PLEDGING?
A pledge is a commitment to make a financial gift regularly (weekly, monthly, or otherwise) throughout the coming fiscal year.
A SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE
A foundational part of our call as Christians is to place God above all else, including our finances. This doesn’t come naturally. By committing to give funds regularly, we engage in a spiritual discipline that keeps God and his Church a fixed priority above our own material concerns. Thus, we deepen our trust in our heavenly Father, who promises to meet our needs as we seek his Kingdom.
EQUIPPING THE CHURCH FOR GOD’S MISSION
Apostles By-the-Sea bases its operating budget on the amounts pledged at the beginning of the fiscal year. Pledges allow Apostles By-the-Sea to look at the coming year and responsibly prepare for doing God’s work in the world.
PART OF A HEALTHY FINANCIAL LIFE
As each of us prayerfully considers the amount that we are going to pledge, this is
a time for us to discern the overall health, balance, and priorities of our financial lives, both spiritually and practically.
WHO SHOULD GIVE?
Apostles By-the-Sea encourages every parishioner to make a pledge for the sake of their own spiritual life and the life of God’s church. We’ve even had children take part in the discipline of pledging, giving a little to God every week!
HOW MUCH SHOULD I GIVE?
The standard “tithe” is 10% of a household’s income. The proportion you give is a matter of personal and prayerful discernment.
HOW MUCH IS APOSTLES BY-THE-SEA TRYING TO RAISE FOR THE YEAR?
The goal operating budget for next year is $300,000. This will allow us to expand our ministries and our missions and outreach to the surrounding communities and to the world.
WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF PLEDGING OVER OTHER GIVING MODELS THAT DO NOT REQUIRE ANNUAL COMMITMENTS?
Pledges allow Apostles By-the-Sea to set realistic and reliable budgets for the coming year. Because of God’s provision and the faithfulness of parishioners to stay true to their pledges, Apostles By-the-Sea has not had to decrease our budget in the middle of a fiscal year.
WHY DOES APOSTLES BY-THE-SEA ENCOURAGE GIVING THROUGH ELECTRONIC DRAFTS?
We encourage giving by electronic drafts (EFT) because this is the most consistent way for us to receive funds. In order to maintain the liturgical act of consecrating our gifts at the altar, we invite our parishioners to write the total of their most recent electronic gift on the offering card and place it in the basket.
