What's it like at a Sunday Worship Service?
On Sunday mornings we transform the beautiful Rosemary Beach Town Hall into an Anglican Chapel with an altar, a lectern, an altar rail, and chairs. As you enter the space you will be greeted and handed a service leaflet which contains all the music and words used in the liturgy. (Liturgy is a word that means 'the work of the people' and is what constitutes the worship we offer to God during the service. More information about Anglican Liturgy is available here.) Organ music will be playing to welcome you and create an atmosphere of reverence before the service begins. Many people use this time for prayer to prepare their hearts for worship. Others use this time to visit with friends.
At 11:15 a.m. the service begins with a majestic processional hymn accompanied by the sounds of an expertly played pipe organ. Other songs during the liturgy are accompanied by organ, piano, and guitar. Beautiful Anglican hymns are used throughout the service as well as newer songs and hymns.
During the service Scripture is read, a sermon is preached, we spend time in prayer for the Church and for the world, and we celebrate Holy Communion. Children 8 years old and younger are invited to go to Kids Church during the sermon and the prayers for a special lesson. At the end of the service God's blessing for the coming week is prayed over the people and we close with a hymn sending us out into the world to love and serve the Lord.
After the service we share in a time of fellowship with refreshments for kids and adults.
Sounds wonderful! What should I wear?
While our worship is reverent, all attire is welcome! Some of us wear our Sunday best while others wear clothes for the beach! (After all, we are on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world!) So come in shorts or come in a suit! Come and be comfortable. However you come, you are welcome here!
